CuraBox takes 2 boxers to the Continentals and both win a medal.

May 2025

The boxing team of the Curaçao Boxing Association (CuraBox) returns from Ecuador with silver and bronze at the continental championships of the AMBC (American Boxing Confederation).

Last week, two talented boxers from Team Curaçao participated in the prestigious AMBC championship in Manta, Ecuador.
Skye Prinssen (junior -57 kg, Supreme Boxing) and Shawn Pryce (elite -71 kg, Baas Sports) were assisted by coaches Coregelino Djaoen, Joram Schenk and Edwin Baas, also president of CuraBox.

The tournament took place from May 17 to 23 and welcomed 98 athletes from 14 South American countries, divided over more than 70 bouts in the junior, youth and elite categories.

Shawn Pryce of Baas Sports boxed two bouts. He convincingly defeated Cuban Alvaro Asencio on points.
In the semi-finals he faced the strong Santiago Diaz, who is the reigning champion of the WBC (World Boxing Council). Although Pryce dominated the first two of the three rounds, he lost narrowly after a controversial split decision. Diaz eventually won this championship as well.
Pryce’s performance earned him a well-deserved bronze medal.

Skye Prinssen of Supreme Boxing also competed twice. He boxed with the juniors, boxers born in 2010 and 2009. He won on points against Boris Otero of Team Ecuador. In the finals he faced Michael Almeida, a local favorite. In an intense fight with tough exchanges, Prinssen eventually had to admit defeat and lost on points. His strong performance was rewarded with a silver medal.

The week in Ecuador was particularly educational for the athletes. CuraBox and the coaching team are proud of these achievements and consider this an important step in the further international development of the Curaçao boxing sport.

CuraBox president Edwin Baas is very grateful to FDOK for the financial support for the travel expenses.
